Visitor Visa & Super Visa

Visitor visas (TRV) and Super Visas for parents and grandparents — applications prepared with the officer's decision factors in mind.

About the Visitor & Super Visa

A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) — also called a visitor's visa or entry visa — is a document placed in your passport and used to enter or re-enter Canada. Holding a TRV does not guarantee entry to Canada: the admission of foreign nationals as temporary residents is a privilege, not a right, and the final decision at the border rests with the border services officer.

The Super Visa allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to come to Canada as long-term visitors, with multi-entry validity of up to 10 years and stays of up to five years at a time without renewing status. We prepare both TRV and Super Visa applications with a realistic, well-documented picture of your ties, purpose, and finances.

Eligibility at a glance

  • Be a genuine visitor who will leave Canada at the end of your visit
  • Have a valid passport and be admissible to Canada
  • Convince an officer of your ties to your home country, the purpose of your visit, and your family and finances
  • For a Super Visa: be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • For a Super Visa: your child or grandchild in Canada must meet a minimum income threshold and provide financial support
  • For a Super Visa: have valid Canadian medical insurance for at least one year and complete an immigration medical exam

Eligibility rules change. Confirm your specific situation on the CICC Public Register for our licensing, and with IRCC for current program requirements — or simply ask us in a consultation.

Understanding your options

What an officer considers

Immigration officers consider several factors before deciding whether you can come to Canada. You must be a genuine visitor who will leave at the end of your visit.

An officer will typically weigh: your ties to your home country, the purpose of your visit, your family and finances, and the overall economic and political stability of your home country. A strong application documents each of these honestly and consistently.

Super Visa at a glance

Successful Super Visa applicants do not need to renew their visitor visa every six months — they are granted a multi-entry visitor visa valid for up to 10 years, with stays of up to two years at a time.

You can apply online or on paper. Key requirements include being the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, your child or grandchild meeting the minimum income threshold, a written financial-support statement, valid Canadian medical insurance for at least one year, and an immigration medical exam.

Why a checklist matters

Incomplete or inconsistent documents are the most common reason applications stall or get refused. We review your package against this list and help you explain any gaps honestly before anything is submitted.

The visitor visa & super visa process, step by step

A realistic map of what happens and when. Timelines vary with IRCC volumes and individual circumstances — we set expectations from published processing times, not promises.

  1. 1

    Case assessment

We review the purpose of your visit, your ties, and your finances, and confirm the right application type (TRV vs. Super Visa).

  2. 2

    Document preparation

Collect financial evidence, invitation and support letters, insurance confirmation (Super Visa), and complete the medical exam if required.

  3. 3

    Submit the application

Apply online (or on paper for some Super Visa cases), pay the fees, and provide biometrics when IRCC requests them.

  4. 4

    Processing & decision

Processing times vary by country and volume. If approved, the TRV (or Super Visa counterfoil) is placed in your passport.

  5. 5

    Travel & entry

Travel to Canada with your documents. A border services officer makes the final admission decision at entry.
